Research Team of Materials and Technology of Electrochemical Energy Storage

The team currently has 6 scientific research platforms at all levels, they include National and Local Joint Engineering Research Center of MPTES in High Energy and Safety LIBs, Engineering Research Center of MTEES (Ministry of Education), Research Center of BMET (Guangdong Province), Engineering Lab of OFMHEB (Guangdong Province), Key Laboratory of ETESPG (GHEI) and Innovative Platform for ITBMD (Guangzhou Municipality).

The main R&D site of the team is located in the campus of South China Normal University in Guangzhou universities Town. The team covers R&D, analysis and test space of 3500 square meters, It also has a complete advanced equipment from computer cluster of simulation and design for materials to materials analysis and applied performance evaluation. The total value is 130 million yuan.

Focusing on the development requirements of national "new energy" and "new energy vehicle" industry, the team conducts research on basic scientific problems of electrochemical energy storage system, and develops innovative technology which can solve the bottleneck problems of power and energy storage battery development. The investigators started with the analysis of basic problems, developed key technologies of battery materials and devices, breaking through the bottlenecks of battery safety, specific energy and cycle life.

At present, the research team has made international influential achievements in basic research and technology development of battery materials and devices. The members of group participated in writing 3 international monographs on LiBs, and published over 300 research papers on Nature Communications, Account of Chemical Research, Advanced Materials, Advanced Energy Materials, Advanced Science, Journal of Materials Chemistry A, and owned  more than 100 invention patents, and won nearly 10 provincial and ministerial awards. Moreover, The team also established a long-term relationship of industry-university-institute cooperation with domestic leading enterprises of battery materials and production as well as Guangzhou Tinci materials technology Co., Ltd.
